I have just inherited a tortoise (its been in the family for over 20 years) but we dont know what species she is! where can i find out?

Congratulations on your new tortoise. You need to take some digital photos of your tortoise from above, underneath, the front and the rear and upload them on to the photos section of a specialist tortoise group such as the two I have provided in the links below. An experience tortoise keeper will then be able to tell you what species you have. Different species have differing envionmental and dietry requirements so it is important that you identify it to determine how you should look after it properly.

By the way, based on sheer odds from 20 years ago- good chance it is a Greek or Hermann's Tortoise.

Take her to the nearest pet shop that sells exotic animals and they might help.
