Depending on the type of modem, USB or modem router, the settings should be saved permanently. After setting it there is usaually a button or link for save settings or activate. This normally re-starts it, an the settings are held in nvram. If this is done it should either recover or you could re-connect it by just unplugging and re-connecting after about 5 seconds. The uninteruptible power supply is a good idea, but if the modem will not retain it's settings whatever you do, I wiould replace it with a later model.

Most modems keep their settings when the power fails. So I think the easiest fix is to get a UPS and put it just on the modem. This will keep it powered up and save your settings.

Sounds like it might be good to get a UPS for each of your pc's too!

try restarting your modem, theres a little hole in the back, push it for a couple seconds and let go,if it doesn't work then go to control panel, network and internet connections, network connections, and once your in there right click on the icon and put repair.

As others have stated you need a UPS to regulate voltage drops and spikes.
