I said

"Any woman who slaps me, regardless of what I say, will be charged with assault and battery. Physical violence is not funny, regardless of the victim's gender. "

And I got a whole bunch of thumb downs.

My question is, why do many women have a double standard where it's ok to physically assault a man's face, but not the reverse?

It's not just women, it's society in general. Since women are "typically" viewed as the weaker of the two sexes, a woman that assaults a man isn't taken as seriously as a man that slaps a woman. Let me just say this, I'm NOT one of those women that subscribes to that double standard. I don't believe ANYONE [man or woman] has the right to put their hands on an adult that isn't their offspring. I do firmly believe in the "I brought you in this world I'll take you out" that parents often throw out at their children but that's a different subject.

Men often consider pressing charges against abusive women weak [or a lash to their manhood] but if they reported the abuse to the police I think we'd find that women wouldn't be quick to slap a guy just because he made her angry.

You've got it exactly right, young man. But when these women appear before my bench, they're invariably surprised to learn that it's still considered assault and there are penalties for such behavior. I'll fine them the maximum amount allowed under the law for the first offense. A second offense permits me to double the fine and tack on ninety days in jail. Perhaps a word to the wise would be in order...

I don't have that double standard. I think that assault is wrong no matter who does it. If I saw a man assaulted by a woman and he wanted to press charges, I'd be glad to be a witness for the prosecution, especially if he sustained any physical damage from it.

For me as a feminist, equality under the law means EQUALITY under the law.

I saw it and must admit wanted to place a thumbs down myself but refrained. You must realize that you were going into the pit and showed a sign of "weakness" to them, that is why(I think) you got slammed.

society, I guess but BRAVO to you for standing up in what you believe!!!

I read your answer on that and agree. No one has the right to hit anyone else. Man or woman.
