She may want a payment but that doesn't mean she is going to get one. Since he hasn't contributed much during the marriage, it would be safe to assume that he doesn't make much. In many states he would be the one getting a payment from her. Bet she wouldn't be very happy if that happened.

Depends on the local divorce laws and who much money he has.

Trying to get money out of a bloke to contribute towards his family is like trying to get blood out of a stone..... for 13 years I have had to bring up my child without ANY kind of help or maintenance.
