Do you have new spark plugs, with proper gap set? Or maybe you need new plug wires?

The cap and rotor do not produce the spark. It sounds like you may need to have a shop look at it. Somehow I don't think you will figure it out. Call it intuition.

depending on what type of vehicle you have there are a few things to look for, like bad fuse, loose connections, bad coil, pick up sensor, busted timing chain/belt not letting the distributor turn. bad or faulty coil wire. just too many things to actually list with out the make and model of the vehicle. in this case start with checking your coil and fuses then work from there. good luck.
