To the best of my knowledge you can only use iTunes to put music files on an iPod nano. You can't use any other "jukebox".

iTunes will allow you to import music files that in formats other than Apples proprietary format (AAC). To do this click on file > import in iTunes. Navigate to the location of the file you want to import.

Some file types can't be imported into iTunes, protected WMA for example. For those, the only way I've found to import them is to use the jukebox that can play those files and create an "audio" CD with them. Then copy the files off the audio CD into iTunes. You now have those songs in iTunes and you have a backup of them on the CD. Put the CD away for safe keeping.

Some songs are free off of iTunes, but the bulk of them cost 99 cents. Get Dad to give you an allowance on iTunes. I give my daughter $20/month. At first she blew through it really fast, now that her library is extensive $20/month is plenty. The way I looked at is that $20/month is like buying her 1 to 2 pre-recorded CDs per month, which for a teenager isn't enough. I figure at $20/month on iTunes I'm getting off cheap. If she wants more she can use her own money and buy iTunes gift cards for herself at the store.
