Well, they are to support the vagina and the pad, and they are a piece of clothing, their like a option, you could not wear panties, or you could not wear any clothes!, but people prefer to wear clothes, I not sure about panties though!

They are not a require item, but it is for hygiene and protection to a sensitive area. There are many times that I don't wear any, but there is times of the month where they are a must.. Besides, they are sexy item of clothing, that usually drives men crazy.
