I feel a need to break from my current grind and just be free, has anyone else just decided to pack up and hit the road? If anyone has any experinces in this please get back to me.

My wife and I did it for a year. We traveled all over the US. Sunrise at the Grand Canyon was the best experience. We had a blast until the money ran out. Today gas prices will be your biggest expense. RV's aren't very fuel efficient.

Three years ago I sold my home (making my three adult children move out on their own), sold or gave away 95% of my belongings, moved the rest into a 30 ft fifth wheel, along with my remaining underage son, three dogs, and a cat, and hit the road. I had to settle during the school year for 8 months for him to complete highschool, but otherwise we adventured and traveled.

We lived on a limited income, and sometimes had to stay in walmart parking lots or along the roadside in vacant areas, but most the time we rented in RV parks by the month (avg $350 all inclusive). Occasionally we stayed in the driveways or on rural property of friends and relatives (by invitation of course).

This was an awesome time for my son and I, and we will treasure it forever!

I am now settled into an apt. with my new husband, but we RV on weekends and holidays, and in a year, we will be hitting the road aimlessly again for years to come!

There are various ways of living this way. Some people have disability or retirement income. Some work a few months at a job in one place then move on to another place. Some have created jobs using the internet that enable them to continue to travel; and any combination of these.

The beauty of this kind of life is, you can stay where you want, when you want, and move on when you want. And if you decide you are tired of the vagabond lifestyle, you can park the RV, get a job, and move back into a regular abode if you so desire.
