I used a dial caliper to mic up the outside diameter of a brake line I need to replace. It comes out to 0.250 thousanths of an inch. Problem is stores only sell brake lines in fractions of an inch.

Math was always a lousy subject for me - can anyone tell me what that converts to please? I wanna say its 1/4 but I'm not sure, please help?

You measured 250 thousanths, or 0.250 inches.
This is 1/4 inch.

Here is how you can covert future readings on your dial caliper:

You can print out this table and keep it with your caliper...

Just remember that IN FUTURE when you want to make the conversion yourself, you divide the number you have (in this case 0.250) by the number 1 adding a zero for each number behind the decimal point. In this case that would be 1000. So...

250 / 1000 or 1 / 4

Just a little added information here. When working with decimals, for numbers following the period, if the last number or two is zero, then they don't actually mean anything and can be dropped from consideration. That is 0.250 is the same as 0.25, and can be converted using 25 divided by 100, which gives you the same answer of 1/4
