Good fences make for good neighbors. Hedges will block more view and sounds thus making them better for privacy. Now, if you were to build a nice fence to keep good with your neighbors, you could also put in a hedge on your side of the fence and have the best of both worlds...good neighbors who don't know what's going on at your home!

Growing up my Mom had planted redtips all around the back yard and they gave us a lot of privacy. I think I prefer a wooden privacy fence, however, they are much more expensive.

Hedges. A fence is so "cold". Hedges are more green, beautiful and alive. Gives a good atmosphere to the garden.

I have annoying neighbors. I don't have fencing or hedges but this year I'm going to plant "corpse" flowers. They smell like rotting flesh!
