It's so nice to see a post like this. With all the anti-Semitism I see on here lately, as well as in the world, this is refeshing.

The Jewish people are wonderful. They have many things to teach us all..........here are a few :

1. Devotion to family. They are dedicated to their wives, husbands, children, and elders. Rarely do you see divorce in the Jewish community. They take care of the elderly, the sick, and show reverence to those who have passed on.

2. Patriotic. They show unwavered patriotism towards Israel. They know that the freedoms they have in that country came at a terrible cost. And they sacrifice alot to remain where they are, because so many hateful people in the world want them gone. And I hurt for them and their suffering.

3. Jewish people promote education, hard work, and productivity. They are doers, not talkers. They can invent the most ingenious things, mostly out of necessity.

4. Above all things, they are devoted to God. All things that they have, they know comes from Him.

5. The Jewish people love their culture and traditions, and have maintained them for hundreds of centuries. To lose their identity, means to lose who they are as a people. I admire them for keeping the traditions going.

Thanks for this post, I enjoyed answering it.

I googled 'famous Jews', but the list is so long I got tired of writing down names, so here are just a few Jews who made huge contributions to society:

In science: Albert Einstein

In music: Yehudi Menuhin, Felix Mendelssohn, Gustav Mahler, Izhak Perlman,
also Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Barbara Streisand, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel

Philosophy & psychology: Anne Frank, Sigmund Freud, Edmund Husserl, Franz Kafka

and there are loads more.

Anti-Semitism is something I simply can't get my head around.

Melodies in a flatted 7th scale, shaming children with minimal facial movement, world domination, tragic-comic sensibility, magical ability to grow a large butt and hips (thanks Momz) in record time, food-pushing, spirituality, emphasis on education and literacy, groovy fur hats, Yiddish, Hebrew, Ladino, Yeshivish, Boro Parkish, world domination, assimilation, Torah, hora, niggunim, world domination, Chofetz Chaim, religion to make you crazy, taking care of the ill and elderly, Kashrut, curing meats and fish, prayin' and swayin', odd syntax, world domination, and world domination.

Just kidding, we don't dominate the world. Why people say that I don't really understand. It's not true. Otherwise I wouldn't have grown up on food stamps. And back then they were stamps and not a sleek EBT card and it was mad embarassing!!!

Not all of us are patriotic or Zionist. Do a Google search on Neturei Karta, for instance--they want to see a "peaceful dismantling" of the State of Israel. Granted, they are a bit fringy, but Zionism is not the absolute rule among Jewish people. My mom once said to me, "Marry a BLONDE man, maybe your kids will be BLONDE!" That is not a proud Jew!

There are many things that people can learn from Jews, and one of the first is that the Christian Bible's "Old Testament" is the Jewish bible, the "Torah". Another is that many of the things Christians take as correct, in fact are mistranslations. The Jewish word for Long period of time is similar to the word 'day', and that is where the phrase "The world was created in six days and God rested on the seventh", whereas the Jewish phrase states, "the world was created in six eons and god rested....."(long periods of time). Similarly, the Jewish word for young woman is similar to the word for virgin, so the Jewish phrase is, "the messiah will be born of a young woman", not as the Christian church's translation, "the messiah will be born of a virgin". There are other mistranslations, both accidental and deliberate (by the Catholic Church) in the Christian bible of the 'Old Testament'.

Also, Judaism is not just a religion, it is a way of life.

Thankyou for this excellent question!

I do not know much about the Jews, other than their strength and ability to triumph over adversity.

I had a good start with Jews because I had a childhood friend who was Jewish (I was 8 or 9). I spent many afternoons and evenings over and they treated this Gypsy kid just like anyone else. My friend visited at my house as well, just like normal friends do. The family taught me about some of their traditions and loved to feed me their traditional foods (they always fed me bagles, cream cheese, and lox because I loved it so much), however, I have a bad memory and have forgotten what they taught me. They put up with my questions about such as the Yamukah they wore, explaining to me about Kosher, and my incessant asking "why do you do that?" Then I would go off and play with my friend.

All my friend and his family cared is that I did not prejudge them, was respectful, and they particularly liked me because I wanted to learn about them. This poor kid caught hell because of being Jewish. I wish I remembered what they taught me.

That got me off on a good start with my opinion of Jews.

I am enjoying reading these answers and look forward to more.

I also appreciate this positive, uplifting question in a forum filled with hatred.

Thankyou for that as well.
