We dream while we sleep. The dream seems to be perfectly real to you at that time. When you wake up you will realise that this dream is illusion. Likewise the so called waking stage is also a dream when you wake up in the reality of self. In deep sleep, there is neither body nor mind. In dream there is only mind which operates, which assume all the form, which illumine the dream world, with various sound, emotions, reactions etc. In the waking stage both the body, mind and senses are active.

thats right. lord Krishna says: that in which the self realised soul awakes is like the night for the rest of the people(the worldly) and that in which they sleep is the day for the ordinary people.(or vice versa) It means that to the self realised soul the mundane life means nothing. he knows nothing of it. Similarly the worldly people know nothing about the truth(the absolute) because they are engaged in the service of thier senses. But in the waking stage only the knowledge of the self is there. The body and the senses mean nothing to the saint because he knows the supereme reality as it is. The dreaming state is called so because the man is under the influence of the lord's MAYA and this maya(illusory energy) covers his eyes in such a way that he cant percieve the real. He chases the temporary and ignores the eternal. its like chasing a mirage.

As per hindu philosophy there are 4 stages of existence

Waking stage
Dream Stage
Deep sleep
Turiya

It is Turiya state which is our real self, but we remain in either of the three stages throughout our life.

Turiya is the stage when one is awakened in universal consciousness and is neither awake, nor in dreams, nor in deep sleep

hinduism tells that this univesal consciousness can be attained through Samadhi, reached by Yoga and meditation

if in the waking stage, both body, mind and senses are active,,,,,, then i must be awake! no i dont think our waking stage is a dream,,,,,,,while we may in a dream state repeat a dream,,,,,, we dont do it day after day,,,,,, we dont have a years long dream,,,,,, also, the body and senses can be present in a dream, hence the waking up in a deep sweat,,,,,, in fear, or fighting an imaginary opponent,, etc,,,,,,, so its not just your mind operating, without your body involved,,,,,,,
in sleep, in dreaming, and awake,,, i think our minds, bodies,,,, senses, spirit stay connected
its just , to me, doesnt make sense that life is a dream,,,,,,, my dreams are vivid , exciting,,,,, crazy,,, etc,,,,,,, while life, awake life,,, while wonderful,,,,,, just calmly goes on and on,,,,,
maybe they meant, that you can be in a dream like state, until you wake up in the reality of self,,,,,,,, then yes you will see the world as different,, see that some of your concepts were made up,,,,,,,, the world will appear different,,,,,, but its all still the same awake world, only ou have changed

In " THIRUKKURAL" written about 2000 years ago in Tamil , it says sleeping is like death and awakening from sleep is like birth.

In other words every man/woman/creature dies and comes to life every time they sleep. For human beings it means that you die and comes to life so often and so do not do any harm to anybody and give alms to everybody
