I was going to offer an answer to your question, but thought of this answer ad how to best understand the motives of Hitler read his book. Mein Kampf. I understand that it is hard to read but I do not know of a better way to understand Hitlers motives than that. The question I had after reading Mein Kampf was why didn't anyone take him seriously.

How do Germans revere Hitler?
The vast majority of today's Germans despise Hitler and the Nazis. It is a great shame that most Germans have to or have had to bare 50 + years afterward.
A friend of mine when she was a little girl went on a school trip to France, while touring France the French would spit on them because they were Germans, because of Hitler and the Nazis. At the time she did not understand.

Another friend of mines father fought in Panzergruppe Guderian, and was a devote Nazi he felt the only thing Hitler did wrong was to loose the war. My friend did not get along with his father at all, he was ashamed of what his father did, and even more ashamed of his father additude.

There are a number of new Nazis, mostly skinheads that believe that Hitler did great things for Germany but most of the Germans here in Germany hate everything there is about Hitler.

Read Mein Kampf, then read about what the Nazis did. Get or lend the DVD set World at War from your local library and if you watch just the 1st disc and the specal disc about the Holocaust, watch the interviews of the survivors.

Taking over the world is not a new idea.. tons of leaders dreamt of this. It has to do with power, honor, etc.
As for the Jews, it's more complicated. It has to do with religion difference, race difference, economic power, etc..

No, today, in Germany, Hitler is not a positive person. Germans are not stupid... they realize that killing thousands of people is not a good thing, period. Even if it was for their country or whatever. Lots of Germans are ashamed of what Hitler did.
You always have some extremists on the other side. Some neo-nazi groups exist.. but not only in Germany, there are some all over the world too.

Cheers, mate.

The Nazi quest for world domination was based on the principle of 'lebensraum' - living space.

At the height of their power during WWII Germany was the size of Oregon with 60 million people.

The Third Reich needed resources to fuel the German economy and expand Nazi might, so Hitler had to expand.

Hitler felt the Jews were an economic undermining influence on Germany and all of western Europe. He felt the Jews held a majority of power disproportionate to their numbers suggesting a conspiracy of Zionism. To Hitler, the Jews were behind the scene "wire pullers" who manipulated gentiles through the law to do their dirty work. So Hitler's 'Final Solution' was a simple solution to the problem, kill all of the enemies of the state, including Jews, in one quick method - genocide.

The first to go to the concentration camps were the communists, then catholics, then gypsies, then the retarded, and lastly the Jews, nine million victims altogether. A lot of the six million Jews died from neglect, typhus and starvation.

I don't think Hitler is viewed in a positive light by many modern day Germans except for the few usual nutjobs.
Hitler's persecution of the Jews was for a variety of reasons, some have already been outlined by earlier respondents. One reason Hitler picked on the Jews was so he could confiscate their considerable wealth. This ill gotten gain provided a lot of the financial backing for the Nazis. Fear and hostility to Jewish people in Europe has been widespread since medieval times. Hitler was able to play up, and intensify this old animosity via propaganda.

Ok, now listen:

1) The idea that Hitler killed the Jews because they were inferior is crap! That was not the reason, it was the pretext! We have to understand that in that time Germany wasn't doing so well: the Great Depression of the 1929-1930 destroyed the economy already weakened by WWI. This happened because Germany was "dollarized" a lot more than the other European countries thanks to two blokes called Dawes and Young who created a system of loans to the German state that pemitted Germany to pay the bill after WWI (Nota Bene: Germany screw them all and payed only a small amount of the original "bill"). In this time a dollar was equal to 4200 000 000 000 in local currency!!!!!!!!!!!! You could buy a bread with 1/4 of that money!! So you (who I trust, are bright) might think only the ones with dollars were rich. And who had a lot of dollars? The jews! So while the rest of Germany was pour, jews had houses, cars, and spend a lot of money. They didn't steal the money but it just wasn't fair in Hitler's opinion.

So only now comes the thing with the races! The only way this mad man could have taken Germany was to make the Germans think they were superior! Jews were the black sheep!

2) "is Hitler a positive person in what he was trying to do for the German people..." YES! they don't speak about it but just think 4 a sec: he conquered Europe, he made them rich, he restored their pride, their economy! Germany was feared again and he managed even if for a few years to wash the shame of being humiliated in WWI!

Note1: my position to the answer in 1) is neutral! I don't bame the jews because it would be like blaming Bill Gates for having to much money! Absurd!

Note2: I based my answer in 2) on a recent trip in Germany when I asked the same and a German refused to answer although he was visibly p***ed off by my attempt to blame Hitler!!

Note3: I have nothing with the Germans! I think that they are the most ambitious nation in the world! Just think that in 90 years they suffered from 2 WW, communism and getting their *** kicked at fotball multiple times ( :) ) and the blokes are still strong!

Hope this helped you understand a lot better what happened with Germany in WWII !

Wanting to conquer the world is pretty standard for a dictator. They pretty much all want to conquer at least some part of the world.

Hitler had some personal reasons for wanting to kill all the Jews, and he managed to en flame the anti-semitism that was fairly common in Europe at the time to consolidate his power. Once in power he used it to further his dreams of racial purity.

Generally, the people of Germany despise Hitler, and are embarrassed that he was a German. But of course, the racists among us will hail him as the ultimate hero of their blind and ignorant cause.

Hitler blamed the Jewish population because of the desperation of the German people at the time. he stepped over the jews and said that they were the reason that germany lost WWI and that they had given money to the allied powers. with the desperation for stability also comes the need for someone to blaim and hitler pointed to the Jewish population for this. no hitler is not revered today in Germany except by the neo-nazi factions

No, Hitler is not viewed as a positive person in Germany today - at all. (Except by a few nutcases, but you get those everywhere). Germans are deeply ashamed of what happened in WW2, the horrors, the millions of people killed... Hitler is seen as insane, and evil. As he should be.

To the person who said Germans still see Hitler as positive because they "got p****** off when you tried to blame Hitler" - that's nonsense. People don't get angry because they disagree with blaming Hitler, they get angry because it's very, VERY annoying if people keep insisting on discussing only the worst, darkest history of your country's past, and ignoring all its good sides.

Germans already know what happened in WW2 and that Hitler was evil, they don't need to be reminded of this period by tourist after tourist after tourist.

It's like a German tourist coming to America and insisting on only discussing the bad stuff that happened - the slaughter of the Native Americans, slavery... That would annoy people, too, and NOT because those people all secretly support the slaughter of Native Americans and slavery.

The Nazis had a very complex and peculiar beleif system. To them, there were 7 main 'races' of humans on earth, all descendants from a God or alien.... Aryan was obviously the most pure and noble in their eyes...
They beleived in biblical times, 'the perverted jew' tempted the nazis and soiled the race, and Hitler was prepared to cleanse it ; something like that. I was shocked when I looked into it for the first time, its not just a 'jew hatred' thing, there's a whole ideology and religion behind it...that had been going on for years. I think a lot of germans still admire Hitler, but also a lot who are ashamed.

Hitler believed that the jews and other minorities were disluding the government and were giving away all the rights that the true germans possessed. He believed that because of the jews, the great nation he was raised in eventually became deluded with lesser species of people and would only continue in a downward spiral unless the "super man" race took it's course and ruled with absolute power.
