Human development are almost the same during embryonic stage. This is one of the main characteristic of mammals which included human. But primary sexual characteristics such as sexual organs are fixed.
Only at the later phase of development, male and female undergo different hormonal control male by testoterone and female by progesterone and estrogen that lead to development of secondary sexual characteristics such as enlargement of prolactin gland in female. While higher stimulated hair follicles of male which lead to beards and muscle buildup.
So nipple as a structural characteristics has been conseved but no very useful in male.

Males have nipples because they are mammals. The enlarged mammary glands of human females serve no purpose except to indicate to the male sexual receptivity. Before front-to-front copulation, it was the females rear that indicated receptivity. As humans became bipedal, the orientation of their bodies changed. Sex also became a more pleasurable and mutual encounter so the participants faced each other. No other primate has any need of these enlarged mammary glands. They serve no nutritive purpose.
That males have nipples is a point in favor of evolution. Why waste the development of nipples on males?
(However, as a human male, I do enjoy their shape, tenderness, ...)

all embryos are destined to be a female. it is the natural phenotype in all organisms.in fact some organisms like the caucasians rock lizards have only females' population. it is only during the later stages of embryonic development, 8th week to be precise that the testis develops in the males which further propagates the development of male external genitalia. therefore the nipples are a vestige of the redundant mammary glands present in the foetal stage.
also we can explain this on the basis of evolution. in the lower organisms there is no morphological difference i between the ,males and the females, it is only in the higher animals that we see the apparent differences.
therefore the nipples may be a remnant of the similarity of the morphological traits in males and females in lower organisms and of phylogenic significance.

Very good question! maybe hormone production. If you watched a baby in the womb grow it would be interesting to see when they appear because the baby's growth is actually a historical map of the evolution of our species... All the way back to when we were inside the eternity of a circle... the spherical, fertilized egg is partial evidence that God exists. The sex of the developing baby is not determined till about 6 months or 2nd tri-mester so maybe the yet indeterminate-milk factory called a 'nipple' atrophies when the male presence is determined???
They must be something for chicks to play with is all I can figure.

cuz all foetuses start as females then at the begining of the second trimester their sexual organs are elaborated so the female's clitoris becomes a penis and the uterus and falopian tubes go outside of the body and become the male balls
