I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. My husband is the only reason I am in D.C. My family and friends are in Ohio. That's what I meant.....

Talk to your hubby about trying to get back to your family sooner. You must feel pretty alone being without a geed support network, your hubby just aint the same as having a girlfriend around or family. Why not invite people to come and stay at different times to try and break up the time. Other than that maybe you could join a club or something to make some friends while you are in D.C

Find some things to do that interest you. Physical activity? Join a physical exercise class and meet some new friends, by going for coffee later. How about art classes? Do you like ceramics or painting? Is there the artist in you that needs to be discovered? Are you currently a student? If not, how about enrolling in some classes that are of interest, or that could be helpful in advancing a career?

You are missing that family, and the comfort close relations bring to us. I also went through that leaving an area that I loved, all of my family and friends and my kids friends. I joined a church, and met so many neat people, and they became my family. We get together for the holidays when I cannot visit my own family. I always feel loved, cherished and a sense of family when I am with this group. You have to be a friend to have a friend, and the friendship of other women in my life have been so lasting and important. Get out there and do it girl! You may make life long relationships once you put yourself out a bit and you'll feel better about yourself. Your family will be proud of you too!

If you miss your family, talk to them on webcam and use a microphone. Call them on the phone. I'm really not a family person, but I do live much farther away from my family than you do yours and the webcam and mike is a great way to stay in touch.

I understand exactly where you're coming from. I moved away from my family to be with my fiance..from Louisiana to Texas, not as far as you, but all the same I used to get very homesick. I can tell you it'll get alot easier, but you just have to make sure being there with him is REALLY what you want. I used to talk to my mom everyday, and I also had a myspace lol Believe it or not it is very helpful. Also, make new friends...that helped me tremendously. =)

Seems your happiness is overly dependent on others. Get your own life, where husband, family, flings and friends are simply a bonus. DC is an interesting place. Get out and explore. Enjoy!

Reach out and touch them. Use your cell phone to talk or text them, use your internet connection to send email, Instant messages. Share pictures, videos, and notes.

Find some friends around your area to help fill the time.

Just be lucky they are both in the same country as you. My husband is several thousand miles away in Iraq for 5 more months.

(a) Get a web cam and chat with your family and friends.
(b) engage yourself in some social activity or hobby.

This way you will not get bored and have many things to talk about.

buy a web cam and have him get one as well so that you can talk to them almost face to face. web cams are not pricey and they are also easy to use. maybe seeing your family and talking to them will help you survive rather than just talking over the phone.
