I never get enough sleep...I always have way to much stuff to do, so I usually sleep 7-8 hours a night. By the end of the week I'm exhausted, and sleep in all weekend to try to get back some energy. Look, spare me the lecture of how this is unhelathy, I know it is! Right now, I need some ideas of how to stay alert throughout the day when I'm in school. Any ideas?

Firstly, if you are exercising and getting out, sleeping as frequently as you do isn't normal. But if your working hard everyday, your sleepy habits are perfectly normal. Secondly, because teens go though hormonal changes constantly, I'm not surprised if your tired.

A great way to stay awake during the day is to probably exercise in the morning before you do anything. When you exercise, it sends a message to your brain that alerts your body to pick it up a notch.

Try that and see if it works. It also wouldn't hurt to to see your doctor either.
Good Luck!

7-8 hours is enough for a lot of people, but my 15 year old seems to need about 9 to feel decent and my adult sister needs around 9-10. This is because everybody's different.

I agree with the morning exercise and eating little bits of dark chocolate throughout the day. Also, if I get up and immediately drink about 8-12 ounces of water it really helps. Plus make sure you're getting enough liquid throughout the day. If you're dehydrated you'll feel very weak and sluggish.

Also, something that helps a lot of people is to take a short catnap sometime if it's possible. This doesn't even mean going to sleep, if you could just close your eyes and relax for 5-20 minutes it's a real refresher for your body and brain!

Sounds like you have vitamin B12 deficiency. Symptoms of B12 deficiency are : fatigue and exhaustion, irritability, moodiness, inability to concentrate, depression, head and hand sweats, dizziness, chest pains, palpitations, headaches and migraines. Not pretty is it!!

You need to increase your intake of foods rich in this vitamin ie: yesat, liver, eggs, milk, cheese and fish, kidney and pork.

Sounds like you've been under extra stress lately?? When we are in stressfull situations we need to increase our intake of the B vitamin complex as the body will use more. As the B vitamin group is a water soluble the body can neither store or produce it. This means we have to replace it in our bodies each day. You can't take too much because the body will simply excrete what it doesn't need in your urine.

Go get yourself a really good quality multivitamin supplement from the chemist that includes all the B vitamins. B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12. Don't buy the B vitamin individually as they work best synergistically (as a group). Don't buy synthetic vitamins as they are notoriously hard to digest. Expect to pay around $30.00 AUD for a months supply.

If you're a vegetarian and have excluded eggs and milk products from your diet a vitamin supplement for you is a must.

You'll be amazed at the different mental attitude and clarity of thinking and energy levels you will have once you are properly feeding your body. Don't forget to drink plenty of water and get lots of fresh air and sunshine and have some play time too. Everybody needs to have fun !!...........:0)

Ensure your sleeping hours are regular at night and, by the way, 7-8 hours appear to be sufficient!

I have to agree with minx on the vitamins. I would also maybe recommend carrying some healthy snacks for an energy boost.. nuts, raisins, some fruits. I would also maybe get checked for depression. Fatigue is one of the symptoms of depression so you may have a slight chemical imbalance as well. Just a point to ponder. I've been through it myself.

Don't do any work. Just watch TV or browse the Internet for a whole day.I also did this and the results were impressive.
