You are most certainly allowed to get a tattoo if you are Jewish. I have three of them and love all three. However, according to the laws of our religion we cannot be buried in a Jewish cemetery. That can be gotten around several ways. The tattoo can be removed before you are buried, it can be cut off, and then you can be buried. Or, like myself and many of my friends, we intend to be creamated, so it is not an issue.
Also, You can be burried in a Jewish Cemetery if you have a tattoo left over from the Holocost, that is not considered the same as tattoos that we get today. It was not put on the person by their choice.
I'm sure you understand the difference there.
We really are not that different from anyone else.

It's not acceptable from what I hear. I think it interferes w/ burial practices as well. Hopefully a Jewish person will confirm if this answer is correct or incorrect.

The only Hebrews that can have tattoos without problems is those who have numbers on their forearms from concentration camps during World War 2.

If you do, you can't be buried in a Jewish cemetary (unless you're a Holocaust survivor).
