What is it with ghost and horror movies having "The _______" titles?

The Grudge, The Ring, The Messengers, The Others, The Haunting, The Entity (being remade), The Omen, The Fog, The Reaping, The Shining, The Others, The Gift....

Is it really THAT hard to come up with a title?

Title? I'm more concerned about the cliches! Please tell me why:

1) It's suddenly not hard to sneak up on someone with a running chainsaw in your hand.
2) If that chainsaw isn't running, it soon will be--because it always starts on the first tug.
3) No matter how smoothly the car was running before, it will always have engine trouble when a killer's running at you. The killer will never have chainsaw trouble.
4) The hero always gets dirt/blood/torn clothing in such a way as to show off their phyiques (this is especially true for women).
5) The villian is unstoppable and can predict absolutely every move other characters have tried to make... until he/it deals with our hero; then he/it suddenly moves awkwardly and makes mistakes.
6) Blood never dries--even if the crime scene is hours old, the blood is still barn-door red.
7) A knife will always emit metallic sounds whenever light gleams on it.
8) A cat is always hiding nearby, and will jump out whenever a character walks by. This is always accompanied by a one-note blast from the orchestra.
9) Girls are willing to run upstairs so that they can later jump out the window in an attempt to avoid an attacker. The door is on the bottom level, people!
and lastly, the one that nauseates me most:
10) There will be a sequal. Even if you're currently watching a sequel.

So here's a title I think we can BOTH live with:

The Usual.

Because it's always predictable, isn't it?

I agree, lack of originality. In a rush to get the movie out so it can fail at the box office.

Yeah, I'm with you. Same with all the new bands like The Strokes, The Fray, The Format, etc. Ugh.
