First of all I don't attest to being strong in diesels however after reading responses just felt compelled to help what little I can.

So, do everyone with Yahoo a great favor, post the name and location of the dealership who told you rebuilding the engine will fix the stalling problem and then use word of mouth and tell everyone you know what kind of BS this dealership SELLS.

Next don't waste your time looking for a coil and "coil oil" you said it is a powerstroke which makes it a diesel, they don't have coils.. I assume the fuel thing is problem the injector pump, which is somewhat possible. Unfortunately it is very hard beyond this to give you ideas.

Do you note any fuel smell in your oil? There is a device called a fuel supply pump, it has a diaphram which can fail and cause running issues.

In line with the other recommends, is the check engine lite on? If so get the code, a common problem with 7.3 is the cam position sensor failing. Hope this helps, my best recommendation is getting a number of estimates and only accept if you get some form of guarantee in writing.

Now tell that dealership to kiss your backside.

Best of Luck.

Ours did the same thing, only it's a 1999. Replace the cam shaft/crank synchonizer sensor. It sits on top of the engine, underneath the belt. It's about $280-300.

You don't have to rebuild the engine just get the high pressure oil pump on the fuel system replaced. $800.00 is about the right price. After this repair it should be good for another 100,000 miles or more.

this same thing has happened with many ford owners. You need to replace not only the engine, but the entire vehicle with a Chevy or GMC. problem fixed! haha i'm just kidding. I have nothing against fords. although i am a GMC driver, we have a 95 bronco with 270 thousand miles and its still running strong. i wish you luck with the problem.

My bet is that you put some gas in with ethynol in it. I had the same thing with my Ford 350 with a 460 displacement. I ran some high octane gas through it and never had the problem again.

Look the coil over real good At different angles while looking for any trace of coil oil. It could have a very small crack from the wire nuts (pos. & neg.) being tightened to tight.

You can get a free computer readout of your car at Auto Zone stores. Go there and do that.

You would have to know the engine error code to be sure what was wrong. Good luck.
