maybe, their salary cannot afford to buy one. kidding aside, fastfood crew are not allowed to bring valuable things inside the store because management want to have a problem with lost personal belongings of staff. that's also for hygienic reason. wrist watch can cause perspiration and it can accumulate bateria. they are dealing with foods, soem bacteria can be transfered through air.

I see someone suggests it's to do with the FDA!

In the UK, the FDA have no jurisdiction over anybody; they could in theory subpoena someone from within the pharmaceutical industry, but, I'd probably question the legality of that too!

It is probably company policy to stop people relying on their own judgement of time, and places emphasis on the clock in the (I don't know why they call it one) restaurant.

The FDA actually classifies a watch as a contaminant of germs just like a ring on your finger. So most restaurants ask that you do not wear jewelry or keep it to a bare minimum.

Think about how uniform McDonalds is about their food....they apply that to their employees as well. There is a dress code and a million other STUPID rules. Fast food is its own kind of special evil hell.

Probably has to with food contamination. They are probably not allowed to wear watches, or rings and such; which is funny cuz the girls make up for it with their acrylic nail decor or ear piercings....

it is considered unsanitary to have a watch on and handle food watches hold a lot of germs and may come in contact with the food.

Its either because all the staff members have no watches, they prefer to look at clocks or that its against their uniform code.
