I think that conceited ppl are really insecure underneath. They brag about themselves, try to make themselves appear better in other's eyes...hoping it will reflect back.

No. I think the last thing an insecure person would be is "conceited.". Conceit requires an inflated ego. Insecure people are not egotistical.

Sounds more like a defence mechanism - acting conceited to cover up their insecurity.

I think so, they find security in being conceited maybe...it is a double standard. However I don't think it goes for all people.

one of the signs of insecurity is putting others down. My brother constantly puts me down.. it comes so naturally that he doesn't even notice it and tells me I can't take a joke. Finally I had to distance myself from him. He got very defensive and angry... That is a sign of insecurity I think... why else wouldn't he just say 'sorry' and stop.. when people are conceited and belittle others... it comes from something.. you don't just make that up, it comes from a thought. A thought comes from somewhere. It's like they actaully convince themselves that they are not insecure and they believe it.

Hmmmm. NOPE. I'm 15 and I basically piss off this girl the whole class saying "I'm so popular, all the girls like me, I can do this etc." just to piss her off lmaooo. She replies by crying like a little baby and saying how conceited I am. Then again, if I am conceited, I am DEFINITLY not insecure!

No, it's irony. A double standard is when you have two sets of rules for two different people, regarding the same thing (example: it's okay for black people to use the 'n' word, but not white people).

I think if people have to go that far out of their way to let you know how cute/funny/smart they are they may be insecure cuz they need tolet you know that. Its much more impressive to find out other ways
