Space is a neutral place between something and nothing(Between a negative energy source and a positive energy source.). All three are endless and space is created thing(a resultant). This is not rocket science, it's basic thought if you ponder it for awhile with factual information. You may also notice by natures great example of cycles that are seemingly everywhere, that all things that are created exist in a cycle of some sort (Even inanimate objects have an inner cyclic existance that is unseen by the naked eye, all things!). By existing in a cycle you could never see what is outside of it totally, you can only observe the higher and lower cycles in limited ways. Most ancient religions speak primarily of an eternal endless 'God'. This 'God is nothing more than an infinite dimension beyond time and space( Space and time always go hand in hand, because creating a neutral space from nothing, creates motion autoamtically.). This has been thought about by pretty much every great thinker known to man since recorded history. Don't think you are the only one. Blake, Dante, Locke, Newton, Einstein, Planck, Jung, to the ancient sages from Buddhism to Islam and most sacred traditions in between, they've all concerned themselves these very things. Study the behavior of light, as well as mirrors and rainbows. You need to better understand your relationship to the universe, that your mind is just interpreting information(Feelings included). You need to better understand the human minds relationship to light and your relationship to the infinite. Aside from self honesty and love, there is not much else to understand. Peace!
That guy who said the universe is contained within your thoughts is basically right. The truth is You(And your entire universe) exist within your awarness and from your awarness, thoughts are made. Our universe is attached to many points of awarness though isn't it? The universe is truly not physical, but it is of and supported 100% by a dimension of pure energy(Or what the ancients often called Spirit.).
All this is no great secret, except to those who don't choose to really look.

"Man is like a foriegner upon the earth. He is not of this world." - Jesus of Nazareth. King James Bible.
"The objective (Outer) world arises from the mind." - The Buddha

Damn, I was gonna say "in your mind" but several people have already made that joke. Not as clever as I thought I guess! =P
Seriously... we don't know for certain. I believe the general consensus is that space-time itself is geometrically finite so that if you were to somehow reach the "edge" of the universe there would be no "space" beyond it. If by some miracle you WERE able to cross it you would effectively expand the size of the universe by about 6 feet (or your height). However, there are theorized dimensions that are outside of our universe, Branes for example. This could get real long real quick so I would suggest looking it up on google or the library.

As far as physics is concerned, everything in the universe including space itself is contained completely within this universe. If you took off in one direction and never changed course you eventually end up back where you started. There is no way of knowing if there is anything beyond our universe simply because you can't reach the end, and even if you somehow did, you couldn't pass through it to see what's on the other side. The laws of physics that allow you to exist only govern our universe. I have thought about it, and if there is another universe outside of ours you can bet that there is another outside of it unto infinty. There is no end, no way of knowing. It's an interesting mental exercise but don't let it drive you nuts.

Nothing. But let me qualify that. There is a big difference between space and nothing. Space has characteristics such as three spatial directions, gravitational warpage due to mass, Pi will equal 3.1415926… , etc. As the universe expands “space” is created within the universe at a quantum level and the universes boundaries “expand” into the nothingness.

There is no ending of space, even if you traveled at the speed of light you still could not find the ending because your very presence would cause the space around you to grow to accommodate you. So there is no ending of space as we call it. Space is beyond our imagination.

If you could travel through the universe until you reached the outer most stars and kept going leaving the stars behind and not seeing any stars ahead of you i guess you could say you have left the universe behind when you are traveling in nothingness to infinity.
I don't no if that makes any sense to you but it is just a thought.

That's an infinitely big container. The way you are describing it, would overwhelm me too.
As for me, I think of the universe as having no end. From one of the people on yahoo answers that I answered, they said they reflected a mirror to another mirror. It reminds me of infinity. Try it sometime.

There is nothing bigger than the universe. It is made of nothing, but the universe contains everything. There is no "outside" of the universe. It never had a beginning and will never end. It was NOT "created" by anything and nothing will EVER destroy it. Think bigger than your 'teachers'.

I was thinking about it last night. Space is almost infinite, but according to the beliefs of the scientists, it ends. What is beyond is something we do not know but if you find tell me and we will share the Nobel prize award!!
so juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust hoot, man. hoot rules.

One little neutron. Thats what we are inside of. Theres no such thing as "Space" once you reach the outside of that Neutron.
