'You British'
Hmm... I resent that and find it frankly insulting in this context.
I'm British and I buy Belgian chocolate because I think it tastes better, and am not trying to prove a point. However, cocoa doesn't grow in Belgium, so where do you think they source their beans from...?
If you're so worried about it, then buy Green and Blacks, or Dubble, or pretty much any other fairly traded chocolate. Don't get all pretentious and high and mighty unles you're actually buying chocolate that's ethical rather than trying to justify chocolate you think tastes better...
And if you'd read the article you quote properly, you'd see that the UK government is trying to do something about this - don't have a go at the Brits who do buy British chocolate because they didn't know about where it was from.
"The call for a "traffik-free guarantee" has been backed by MP Mike Hancock who has tabled an Early Day Motion in the Commons signed by more than 50 fellow MPs."
Better still, don't buy chocolate at all, but send your money straight to someone who doesn't even have a job, however poorly paid or rewarded.
www.oxfam.com will help you to fulfil your ethical needs without having to trouble yourself over inappropriate chocolate at Easter.
Enjoy your egg; I hope you can find something more ethical than expensive and sumptuous chocolate to put your money towards next Easter.

Well - this year i am not having any easter eggs coz I am on a diet - lol. But seriously, there is a whole world of items we can and cannot buy due to the way they are made, and shouldn't it be left to the individual person to make up there mind if they brought it or not?? If i was not on a diet, i would be having an easter egg - or six! But, I would never condone any person for buying an easter egg, for enjoying their break off work, for having a little bit of fun. If you do not want to buy the eggs, then dont, but dont tell or criticise the way that others live/

In this country you don't have to pay a premium - just shop at the Co-op & buy their own chocolate which is all fairtrade, every last bit of it.
For someone who cares, you do come across as a joyless, holier-than-thou spoilt brat.... might want to work on that a little. Not all Brits live in Buckingham Palace, you know - just as not all people where you are live in ivory towers.

i love people who have such high morality.
i admit its sad and hopefully this kind of cruelty can be avoided and abolished.
"I got my Easter Egg from Belgium and paid a premium for quality chocolate which wasn't sourced from the suffering of children."
how wonderful that you can afford such a thing. how wonderful you can afford food that isnt dependent on necessity. how wonderful you dont have any worries at all. isnt it excellent that you can pass such flippent morality remarks on the internet when people have real problems.
suck the hell out of anything that has any remote joy in life why don't you.stick that premium paid quality chocolate up your digestive system.
why not give the money to charity, why not do something about it.

I don't buy chocolate eggs, not one, ever.I still colour them the old fashioned way,and make some lovely patterns and then on sunday morning we crack them.
And I think that children slaves are the shame of todays era. To think that some children live that way makes me put my head down. You have a point but somebody needs to act NOW

Well aren't you a goody goody then? Why didn't you just do without your expensive Easter egg and give the money (and a whole lot more as you can obviously afford it) to Oxfam. And while you're about it, do without all the Christmas giving and receiving by spending the dosh with Sight Savers or one of those organisations.

it isnt the people who can change this awful system...it is only governments...you cant condem us for buying an easter egg...when the governments of these countries..dont appear to give a damn about the poverty & children in their countries!
p.s. you could have given YOUR expensive belgian chocolate money...to a third world charity..rather than stuff your face with it...dont you think?? and unless you live there...how much was the fare to Belgium?? - hope you feel bad now!!
