I am 27 years old and have stayed at my current job for nearly five years. Is it too late to change my career path now? I am not an adventurous type of person.

Have you changed your job at my age or even old and found it worth the change

It's NEVER too late. I'm 42 and let's see... I've changed careers 5 times now. I'm actually going to college right now to get another degree so I can change again. Maybe it's just me, but staying in one career my whole life would drive me insane. I couldn't handle just doing the same old thing my whole life. I enjoy variety and new experiences. And I've found that every time I've made a career change, my previous careers have given me an advantage in my new career, helping me to see things differently than people who had never done anything else.

10 years from now you could be a Doctor if you wanted to make a big career change like that! 7 years from now you could be a lawyer. Any technical skill you wanted to learn could be learned in just a few years time. 27 is pretty young, 10 years from now you will be 10 years older, whether at the same job or something new. You would still have about 30 years to work at that new job/career, so I say, if you are not going to be happy doing what you are doing for the next 40 years, make some changes now. Plenty of time!

My God!!! 27???

Nope its too late your life is over...Give up!!

Seriously if you feel its time for a change...Do it.
Also if you stay at the same job you will not move up...
Think about this fact....You reach the summit where you are. I mean you are at the highest level there where you are...

The next place you go you will walk into the door at that level..
Its a given that a person that changes jobs every 5-7 years will go higher than someone that stays at the same place....

But somewhere around the magic 50 number the old bell curve will kick in and the earning potential starts to wane.

No it's not to late, actually it never to late as long as you are willing to take a chance. I am a little older than you and I in the process of changing careers as we speak.. I worked in the same industry for over 10 years now, I have had several different jobs, but the same field. However in the fall I will be going back to school to study medicine and I am looking forward to the change. It has taken me a while to step out of my comfort zone but you only live once and who wants to have an unfulfilled life??? Not Me

I am not 27 and have not changed my career either!! But as a person related to HR, I can tell you that it’s not too late. U can definitely change your career path but not with a flip of a coin. First you need to acquire knowledge & skills which you need for the new career. You have to be compatible and have competency to impress your new employer. So be wise before you resign from the current job to follow your new path. Good luck!!

PS: It is never too late for anything (Most of the time!!!!) :)

Not too late. Are you kidding, at age 27? Go for it.

Since you are not "adventurous" you have to safeguard yourself that you dont settle at your age for an unsatisfying job. Push yourself to examine other options.

Advice: keep you eyes open and talk to friends & contacts you know about what is out there in the world of work. The first big job change is most difficult, but once you do it, it gets easier.

Work at a job you like with daily challenges, and with people you respect and enjoy.

How much longer to you plan to work? 30 years, 35 years, more???

That's a lot of time to spend at a job you don't really enjoy.

Ok! Plan of attack! What would you like to do?? How do you qualify??

Community Colleges offer so many courses it 's mindblowing. Accounting, heating and air conditioning, you name it.
Need education for your new career? There it is cheap, convenient, and backed by people who can help you.

Be adventerous.(well, a little bit.)) Ask yourself, "what do I enjoy doing."
If you enjoy painting cars, go around to body shops. Perhaps a dealer might put you on as a helper. You could learn and advance.

Yes. I worked for an ins co, ( at age 29) I was getting bored silly. I found out about a job in Motor Freight and worked in that field for over 30 years.(Clerk, dispatcher, payroll, claims) AndI can honestly say, I never felt on a Sunday night, "Groan... tomorrow's Monday!""

Good luck.

It's never to late! And no 27/28 isn't to late to change career. The experience you have had, although Nursing isn't business studies, you still have had 'work' experience and experience dealing with people. That will always count for something. I say go for it, life is to short if your unhappy, we spend half our life working, might as well do something we enjoy. Rhianna x

Heck no! You are just a young puppy. Some people change careers midway through life. If you find a better fit then go for it. You are much more likely to become successful if you are doing something you are happy in doing. And what a price to pay even if you do become successful in your current occupation if you are not enjoying it!
