What an interesting question! I wonder if there is a trick to it . . . .

I would say, you need to spend a lot of time in high-end department stores looking at ties and their prices. You'll get a feel for what an expensive tie looks like -- and in many cases, you may recognize a tie you already studied, and know exactly how much it was (-:.

Once you develop an eye for it, I think you can tell pretty quickly, but you may still get fooled. But, at least you won't be caught wearing any ties that looked like they came out of the dollar shop!

just say they are expensive cuz then the person's ego will be super boosted.
