It is similar to whiplash in the soft tissue damage it can cause, as well as causing potential brain damage or brain swelling from the bashing of the brain inside the skull while being shaken. The time it takes to heal or whether it's permanent all depends on how much and what kind of damage was done in the first place. Any rough treatment that causes the head to bounce around unsupported can cause this.

Anyone even adults can get a form of shaken baby...although when it's an adult it isn't called shaken baby, but you can shake anyone hard enough and can cause the hemorrage that happens in babies. I have never heard that a baby being thrown in the air getting shaken baby. In order for it to do major damage in a baby or anyone you need to shake them pretty hard.

if the child is shakened too much it can be caused. By accident, on purpose. Just the fact that you shake them alittle too hard can cause it. Swinging is one thing shaking is like a rollercoster ride to a tiny easy to bend bone body.
