Thanks for all the answers just need a little more clearification, right now there is a strip of steel under the middle wire which is screwed to the body of dryer.so when i get the 4 prong cable i should attach the 4th wire (ground) wire in the middle.and that way it will be grounded to the body.
Thanks

There should be an instruction paper with the plug you buy, as to "what should I do with the extra wire" or go to Home Depot and ask them. You'd better make sure you know
what your doing before you plug it in, maybe get someone over that knows? or, an electrician.

It sounds like you have a grounded wall outlet. I have seen these in trailer homes and modular homes. You need to buy a new power cord that has 4 prongs and make sure the round one goes to the ground in your dryer. Some dryers have the ground wire under the neutral wire, that will need to be moved over to where it will ground to the cabinet. There should be some directions with the plug or check you operators installation manual.

Remove the jumper from the neutral lug, (the center lug), to the appliance chassis. Attach the ground wire to the appliance chassis. The 3 lug terminal hooks up Hot-Neutral-Hot. Make DAMNED SURE the appliance chassis is grounded.

Budde is right. Place the ground onto the chassis. Make sure the metal is not painted - if it is, sand the paint off. DO NOT go to Home Depot for advice. They have given so much WRONG information they make me sick.

not a problem, just find a screw near the wire on the outside of dryer, and if not one make one,and then screw wire onto it...It will just be ground wire..........just make sure that you have right wires goint to the correct places...........
