*all* ps2 games are actually played FROM dvd discs, just like the playstation playing games from CDs

the term DVD does not mean movie, it's the type of disc.

anybody that tells you otherwise is misinformed

I used DVDs in my ps2 a few times and my ps2 is fine. However, I am not sure if it affects the ps2 after prolonged use as a DVD player.

My PS2 is 6 years old, and I play DVD movies on it constantly. Heck, it is working like brand new, and it is all scratched up and full of dust, so I don't know which clueless person told you that.

yes that is true in a tiny way. yes playing DVDs in it actually wear out the laser to some extent. But this is also the case with games as well. the same goes with computer disk drives (especially with burning lots). but its nothing to worry about. its been proved that if you look after it (like turn it off when its not being used) then it will last you a lifetime.

If you watch DVDs too frequently ony our PS2, it can destroy the lens in the PS2, and that lens is very, very hard to replace, so yes, it does screw the PS2 up.
