Yes, there is much more to life than meets the eye! And what is that?

Our eyes are part of the five senses. And existence of our soul atman is beyond the comprehension of the five senses and the mind. Anything that happens in the domain of soul atman is beyond the purview of mortal human beings. Is there something fishy going on? Or is it something more subtle... more complex even for an intelligent human being to comprehend!

The crux of life lay in the existence of the soul atman residing within our heart. The need to manifest a body... the form of an insect, animal or a human being rests with souls' atmans. It our soul atman within that has manifested the body and not vice versa! Our soul atman within is the governor of the body... the player of all things spiritual!

Spirituality is not a term... it defines the real essence of life. It is spirituality transgressing which a human being comes to know the real essence of life... the cause for enlightenment and salvation! We cannot see God yet, feel its presence! We also cannot see our soul atman within our heart... yet we all know, the moment our soul atman leaves... the body shall decay and die!

It is our soul atman within our heart that prompts the importance of gaining enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha in Hinduism). In spite of the fact that the manifest stage of human beings is the highest in the cosmic life cycle... the powers available to human beings are puny.

Only after gaining control of the five senses and the mind does a human being reach the stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi... when one comes face-to-face with God Almighty.

Heaven and hell can also not be perceived by our senses yet they exist. Heaven exists in the core of the sun where temperatures exceed million degrees centigrade. Yet, most human beings think that heaven is a place of enjoyment where nothing is required to be done... no karma all play!

None has ever seen or visualized the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism) yet it exists. Having gained enlightenment and salvation... every soul atman leaves for the kingdom of God... a point of no return! All is beyond the purview of the senses and the mind.

Scriptures of all religions... all spiritual writings indicate the same message... yet, guided by the senses and the mind... human beings fail to understand the Scriptural texts. The five senses and the mind govern the physical manifest world... a sojourn of 70 to 80 years...the life of a human being. Yet, the spiritual domain remains beyond the purview of the senses and the mind.

Our five senses and the mind have limitations. They were meant for the physical manifest life. To see beyond the ordinary... we need to use our inner vision... the eye of our soul atman within. It is only after we transgress the boundaries of the physical domain and enter the spiritual world do we find... the domain of God and soul. Yes, there is more to life than what meets the eye for two reasons.

1) Some thing are currently so small or far away that they do not take up enough of our retina to be visble unless they are magnified by refracting lenses the technology of which will always be behind what could potentially be seen.

2) At least some of the matter in the universe cannot reflect light and is known as "dark matter" and will thus never "meet the eye". It can only be inferred by the bending of light by the matter's gravity - a phenomenon known as gravitational lensing and predicted by Einstein.

Light did not exist at the birth of the Universe and so a strong enough telescope could never see the immediate aftermath of the big bang.

There is more to life than what meets the eye, this most simply is true. What meets the eye is sensed as what it seems, but what reaches the heart and inner recesses of the mind is how it is felt, and then beyond this recognition of feelings about what we see is deeper meaningfulness of that thing observable among all the other things present.

Even a casual and most superficial observation attempt to know what life is and what things in life are. We find the answer to this question by arbitrary definitions of common knowledge. And yet a definition of as simple an object as an apple is just for the purpose of its most common physically recognition. If one defines an apple entirely and absolutely one would define the entire universe that it is but a small effect of. There is more in life than meets the eye not in terms of what an eye sees, but what it can see.

Definitely.

Many good answers here.

My take.

Life as we experience it, is multi-layered, much like an onion, except that there are an infinite number of layers to all our 'onions'. We, usually, can only experience ( when manifested here in the 'physical' ) one or two layers at the same 'time', and even those that experience more than one, often called 'psychics', are frequently ridiculed or worse.

Try to use this analogy. The IMAX theatre is a composite screen, a couple of thousand ( roughly ) of TV sized 'pixel' screens making one gigantic image, like a fly's eye. Now, imagine that instead of one composite image, there were all two thousand ( odd ) showing a different image.

You couldn't possibly imagine watching all of the screens atm once, right ? So you probably pick one or two and try to follow the action on those. But........a big 'Butt'.....you're basic understanding of the human mind tells you that, under hyponosis, you could probably recall all of the images one by one, because you know that every image you have ever seen is stored in your brain, somewhere, the problem is access.

Well, perception is like that, we 'see' what we think we 'see', but actually we are 'Seeing' much more. As we become more adept we learn to 'See' more and more.

Many movies try to show this, one I like very much is "Sixth Sense".

Yes. There is so much more existing than the human eye can capture, after all, atoms exist and are not visible to the human eye. Also life, philosophically speaking is seen differently depending on who the viewer is. The viewer's life experience, can enhance , distort..also depending upon the viewer..or the thinker behind the thought.

The eye only takes in a certain set of frequencies. The other senses take in lower frquencies of energy and psychic abilities can tune into the massive range of worlds that don't meet the eye.

Your Eye is only one way to experience life.
Outside the five senses, there is the inner world you can experience by going within. Your dreams are an example.
Meditation is another experience. Visions are another.
There is life beyond the third Dimension and I have been given undeniable proof several times in my life.
Jesus said , "seek and you will fine. Knock and the door will be open." He also said "the Kingdom of God is within."
I suggest you study his words to find more to life.

there is definitely much more to life than meets the eye. there is more to the stranger passing to your left as you stroll down the street... there's more to the flowers in the bushes.... there's more to the buildings than bricks and mortar... there's definitely more.

plus there's religion, which is a whole another depth to life. it makes life 4-D... physical, emotional, and mental make life 3-D, but when you add religion, it makes it like a 4-D, which is another layer that is positively way more than meets the eye.

I sort of feel like life is what we want to make it. I have felt for some years that maybe I got to choose my life before my life started so be content with what is delt me. Being content does not mean to not strive for better--in every way--but I have been happy with what was sent my way. Even the knocks and bruises have healed with time and I am still happy. I wish you happiness also.
