i love to see a man looking sexy showing off his muscles wearing a "wife beater" but where did that name come from?
the name is kinda offensive and i dont like it. I started calling them A-shirts but then people look at me crazy and dont know what i'm talkin about so i just call then wife beaters like everyone else.

When the show "Cops" first came out and every single domestic dispute featured some drunken idiot wearing one, they gained notoriety as the now infamous "wife-beater".

But I'm with you, I call 'em A-shirts.

My gym teacher told me that Italian men use to wear that type of undershirt and people said that they would always beat their wives. Hence "wife beater." I call it an undershirt.

Have you ever watched Cops?
All of the men that are getting arrested wear them.
They're always drunk and have usually been accused of beating their wives. No lie.

More 'classy' people just call them men's tank tops. :)

I always figured it had something to do with the trailer trashy, redneck stereotype in the movies that often beat their wives....

Yeah, most of the time when guys are arrested for beating up their chic, that's what they're wearing.
