In 1967 the two leauges the NFL and AFL played their first championship game called the AFL-NFL World Championships.

It was a match up of the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs in the Los Angeles Memorial Colesium.
Green Bay won the matchup
They won again the following year against the Okland Raiders this time in Miami,FL
They then played two more years both years the AFL feilded the winning team.
In 1970 the two leauges merged and thus began the spectacle and monster that has become the Super Bowl.

One other point those first four games though not called the Super Bowl are counted by the leauge as Super Bowl 1 through 4.

The AFL-NFL Championship Game. I'm only 32 and I know that. The term Super Bowl wasn't used until the third game, but it was actually thought of before the first game by Lamar Hunt.
