I had my own company in Vegas for many years, renovating homes for rental and leasing. It's a taxing business and your seeing all the good parts of it, not the paper work, the money loosing parts, the mistakes or the last minute changes by the owners and the fussy butts that don't like what they see. Your not getting the whole picture.
After some time in the business I had to specify in the contracts that owners had to stay away from the job site, only after contact could they see what was going on and, they could not, under any circumstances, help on the job.

It's a rewarding busines but also like I said, taxing. You don't see the licensing, the taxing, the Workman's compensation dues, all the fees involved that have pushed many out of business. I myself after many years, chose to work for someone else and let them pay all the fees involved.

You only see the good parts to these programs, not all the bad sides.

I've been thru a few reno's, and it's a lot of good, hard work. Those guys really seem to know what they are doing. Things always work out but then they do have a producer and the show couldn't air if they couldn't get that perfect result.

I enjoy his show and pick up a lot of info on new techniques & materials plus some basic building techniques that are overlooked.
