quick sand is a condition rather than a type of sand. It is causes by the uplift of water flowing upward through a sand deposit. When this uplift pressure equals the weight of the snad particles it has reached a quick condition. It is essentially a suspension of sand particles in water. Contrary to the popular opinion, quicksand does not suck a victim under. it simply is incapable of supporting and weight so an object sinks. the sinking is hastened by a victim struggling to get out.

There is sand that can "suck you in", but its nothing like in movies. I also saw the mythbusters episode on this and they found it takes longer than in movies to suck you down. They also need to be deep enough too.
You can see how to survive it in the "worst case senario" books (I also think they comment that there have been no reported deaths from it!).
I know animals can get stuck in mud (and they eventually ended up as fossils, so thats good for us today...bad for the animal.

yes, quicksand does exist, as I have encountered it in Southwest Florida. However, it can be found in many different places if certain conditions are right.
