For some time now and lately quite often, I will suddenly remember dreams or moments from dreams I´ve had over the years. Regardless of what I´m doing at the time, vivid images/memories suddenly slip into my mind and I can perfectly recall a dream, sometimes even dreams I had when I was a child (36 now). It´s similar to when you remember a scene from a movie you watched many years ago. It kind of freaks me out because I don´t understand why this happens and also because it occurs frequently. Any ideas?

For the same reason that you remember ANYTHING. The fact that you are remembering dreams is no different than suddenly remembering something that really happened to you. It's all recorded in that brain of yours. What triggers the memories depends on your environment and a bit of luck. In other words, it likely does not mean a thing. The fact that you are wondering about it is more relevant to your life than the memories are. Why do you care? THAT is the question that matters.

The mind is absolutely amazing when it comes to absorbing and holding in material, especially dreams. So many studies are going on about that right now, and I'm not sure anyone can give you a definite reason as to why it happens; people may be able to give you a theory, but that's all most of it is right now. They are actually trying to come out with a device that you put on when you go to sleep, and it records your dreams so you can watch them later. It's very interesting stuff! Wow, I just noticed that I didn't answer your question at all, just rambled. You aren't strange or anything for being able to remember bits and pieces from dreams you had many years ago, it's just the way your brain functions. You should be proud of your mind, some people can NEVER remember the dreams they have! Go you!

It's just the same with me! My idea is that your soul actually leaves your body while you're asleep and sees and experiences things in other 'realms' or 'dimensions'. I think it's just as real and valid as your waking life, and that's why you remember. It's good for your spirit to have a rich dream life - it shouldn't freak anyone out, except that mainstream culture doesn't take these things seriously enough to talk about much. There's also an idea that some dreams may be little excursions to the afterlife to give you some glimpses of what's in store! If they are pleasant to you, you can feel secure you're on the right path. If they scare you, then you still have time to change your ways for the better. It's interesting :)

people think that dreams are abstract thoughts in your subconsious and so dreams always there. its just that when you wake up you switch to your consious mind. you subconsiouc mind knows more than your consious so things can get locked away in there for a long time. if an event had a strong impact on you then you would remember it, you also think about it when something triggers it. if you have something that is similar to it sometimes your brain jumps from thought to thought and you remember something new.i hope i helped you out.

Because the dreams are tying to tell you something you better listen and interpret them so you can work out what they are telling you.
