Consumer reports is so off base when it comes to vacuums. The machines they pick are machines i repair all the time, and most of the time they are the worst vacuums out there. If you want an upright buy a riccar and for a cannister get a miele They have many models to choose from and are the best quality out there. Ive been fixing and selling vacuums for fifteen years.

One way of checking what consumers say is to go to Amazon.com and search for vacuum cleaners and then choose the best customer review option.

I also like to search by best selling.

Eureka 4870GZ has been the best selling vacuum on Amazon.com for quite some time.

I've done both searches for you and gave you another site that gives good suggestions how to choose the best vacuum cleaner.

I've been using a Dyson Upright for about a year now,. and I'm hooked, you can't believe how much dirt, dust, etc., it actually picks up, and doesn't use a filter and comes apart easily for cleaning. And after over a year, the suction hasn't changed or diminished at all!

It is the Dyson it is expensive but it is worth it never clogs. Kirbys and oreck are old fashion expecially the oreck the style is like from the 50's. Get with this generations choices.

I know 20 people are gonna tell you DYSON but I disagree. I have the DC40 and it is very awkward to use. It does suck well but it isn't user friendly and it's bulky and very expensive. I'd had good luck with Hoovers in the past, any bagless kind.

I bought a dyson for a dog hair problem and it is the greatist thing that has ever sucked. The hoover windtunnel sucked pretty good too. Dysons are a little pricey.

dysons are good for the price but if price isnt an issue then Kirbys are fantastic, we had a demo guy come round to our house to show us what it can do, i was shocked when he hovered the pillows, it was disgusting what came out! think that your head is on it all night.
