Come on, it's cold out and we are talking "Gorebal Warming"? Isn't it supposed to be getting warmer or is AL just blowing hot air?

So the Earths climate is changing alittle. There was an Ice age (which 20+yrs. ago we were told was coming back), the Earth warmed and ended the ice age, we have not been able to measure climate change long enough to make the determinations that Al is making and mostly all scientist are saying that it is true that the Earth is going thru natural climate changes. All I say is we can't jump into panic mode and we definitely need to take what Al gore has to say with alittle caution

Al must have clammed up for the time being, that's why it's cold!

Just watch, though, the global warming people will swear up and down this cold weather is caused by global warming. Gotta cover all the bases, ya know.

Global Warming is happening. Get over whether it is happening or not. The debate is not whether the Earth is heating up or not, but to what extent have humans caused it and what actions should we take/not take to correct it. And just because its cold outside doesn't mean global warming is happening. Weather doesn't equal climate.

The warming is not happening as a result of less protection from the sun (aka the destruction of the ozone). Ozone merely protects us from harmful UV rays and ozone destruction has been caused by CFCs from aerosols, old refrigerators and air conditioners, among other things. Instead, warming is caused by the buildup of greenhouse gases (CO2, H2O vapor, methane, nitrous oxides). Some of these gases are natural and naturally warm the Earth by 60 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have spiked in recent years.

Is global warming for real? Here's some stats:
Since the 1970s, the average global temperature has risen by 1 degree Celsius. It could increase to 1 degree Celsius per year if left uncurbed.
Over the past 50 years, heat waves lasting more than 4 or more days have tripled.
The five warmest years on record are all in the past 10 years: 2005, 2006, 1998, 2002, and 2003, respectively.
Look at pictures of Glacier National Park in Montana from 75 years ago, and pictures of the park today.

Global warming does not mean the world is getting warm from what I understand.
The colder areas see warmer temps and the warmer areas see cooler temps is what I have been told.

Actually I think the term refers to the fact that there is less protecting the earth from the sun, but that is not the only thing that effects our temp. I just saw a think on pbs that was disturbing as all about the state of our oceans, and other programs that show how the world has changed in the past but how now the world is changing and the parts due to neglect by humanity are unnatural and a huge issue. Over time people have become to used to getting what they want and making land suit their needs.

Sorry to rant here, but it killed me to see 10s of thousand of salmon swimming up a stream that was shut off by manmade dams. Now all people are paying and instead of worrying about using that water for farming people should have adapted to the land and ate the fish instead of letting them gasp for air. Check out the story I am sure it is available on PBS website.

I live in Alaska and we have seen a very weird winter, and I cannot believe how they had to move the sled races around in the past few years. It does effect our wildlife and our nature, we don't protect our homes well enough. And the glaciers are melting whether you see a temp change or not.

Tell me truthfully, can you detect a 1 degree shift in the temperature over the course of a year, or even the course of an hour. You may be cold, OK we get that, but the oceans are warmer, the polar ice caps are melting, glaciers are melting.
Every peer reviewed scientific journal in the world agrees, 166 nations of the world agree, even the US Government agrees, Global warming is happening , and it is happening because of human population. What the nations of the world don't agree on is what to do about it.

Johnnny boy 2006 was the hottest year on record, 2005 was the second in line, 2004 was the third. Do you want me to continue?

If you have one cold day it does not mean the whole winter/spring was cold, does it?

by the way we know so little about effects of global warming ... one of the theories is that golf stream will slow down, stop or shift and Europe will plunge into cold (while average earth temperature will rise).

john that is the point natural cycles are greatly affected by humans. There is 90% probability that it is human driven. Are you waiting for 100%?

More politicians should refer to it as Climate Change and not global warming because as some places become warmer, others will become colder. One of the main reasons for this is the ocean. Water expands when it is heated. The ocean temperature is much more constant than air temperature is, so even a slight change in ocean temperature has a major effect. When the ocean expands, you lose the currents that take the warmer air from the equator to the higher latitudes, making some places colder.

I think Al overstated Global "warming". It's more like Global Climatic Change---and yes, it's happening as we speak.

Will it carry overbearing near world end consequences? No.

But it WILL get our attention, surely; the "damage" CAN be "repaired"--we're still in control of that to positive degrees. We have to shed our impressions of ecologically sensitive persons as being tofu-pot smoking liberals who don't know what they're talking about.....because they DO.

As of today, 2, 500 physical and natural field scientists ALL agree that we're in for some rather odd climatic changes EVERYWHERE. And a third of these scientists for years disregarded ecologist warnings as pot-blurred babble.....until today--when the hard copy proof was shown.

Do the research to know what YOU can do to help repair the damage--if enough of us focus on this goal, we just might protect our planet. After all: we don't have a backup planet to go to........

we as humans have not kept a written history for long enough to know if the warming of the planet is due to us or due to the path that the planet is on. We are traveling closer to the sun and that accounts for most of it. I think that the politicians are creating this panic for financial gain. Yes the planet is warming but not due to all the crap they suggest! the always leave out the part about the planet traveling closer to the sun!

Just because the globe is heating up, doesn't mean that there can't be cold days in some areas. In my town, we are experiencing a cold snap of around -14. However, I live on the Canadian Prairies, and compared to the rest of our winters, that's pretty damn warm. We haven't had nearly as much snow as we normally do, and we didn't have the major blizzard that comes every decade.

the difference between climate and weather is weather is temperature clouds and so on in a short amount of time and climate is the longer version. and the cold out side is because it the rain was brought by cool winds and cooled the area.
