What do you mean by cope?
Is she just sad? Or is she not living life anymore?
Her depression sounds situational and it will pass. Be supportive, show her you care, and love her to bits.

I think you posted in the wrong place, but that may have been so I would see it. I am a depressed mom!!! Tell her often that you love her. Help her find professional help. Tell her that you would fix it if you could but you can't, it's something she has to do for herself. Practice a little tough love, but try not to hurt her feelings. Be there when she gets better and take her on her first roller coaster, or leap from a plane (after she starts wanting a parachute again lol) Any way hope this helps Good luck. If you need to talk I'm at bw_bp_kw@yahoo.com.

Love her and understand that this"depression" is a normal grieving period after a divorce or break-up.
Encourage her to find happiness and self worth outside of a relationship with a husband or boyfriend.
Because if she wants another one she needs to bring the "best" her to the relationship.
Maybe you could find things about her that you like and comment on them - give her a few compliments ( yes even if you have to tell little white lies for awhile)

Really, seriously try to understand her need to grieve and then try to encourage some positive time together because she is more than a wife/girlfriend...she's your mom;)

When my Moms Mom died she got really depressed and years later she still is and she probably might be for the rest of her life, but the way that I coped with it was that I had to let her deal with her moments best she could. It's always good to be there to talk with her to try to take her mind off the pain.Even if you have nothing to talk about make something up,and even when you don't want to talk to her just listen to what she might say or watch TV together that starts good conversations.

You know what, I am a Mom to four sons and your question really touched me.. I think it would be a great idea for you to show your mom your question.. Not all Moms are the same but I know if my son submitted a question like that it would just really touch my heart (I know you must think I am so corny, sorry) that would give y'all some ground to get it all out in the open and most of all she would see how much her son cares for her. If you don't wanna show her, just tell her what you told us. Your Mom is a lucky woman to have you for a son =) Just try to let her know you care and want to help.
Good Luck!

give her space, don't bother her if she looks stressed out. Mothers are the most dangerous woman alive because they have one tool the others do not, guilt. If you bother her she might use her depression to trap you with guilt. Just back away, and hope she either comes around or gets some meds.

I think a better question is how can you support her.

Love goes both ways. Sometimes we have to take care of our own.
