I will give an example: "What factor CONTRIBUTES to poor critical thinking IN STUDENTS?"

1. The "Mine-is-Better thinking habit
We regard our present (and past) ideas, values, groups, political and religious affiliations as superior.
i.e. "My Religion is better than your religion (or no religion at all).
2. Face Saving
i.e. Using the dishonest method of pointing the finger at someone else. "It wasn't my fault - he made me do it."
3. Resistance to Change
i.e. Rejecting new ideas and new ways of seeing or doing things without examining them fairly. See Galileo's and Darwin's examples for this.
4. Conformity
Instead of thinking critcally, we go along with the group to avoid the risk of being different, a sacrifice of independence for a lesser good.
5. Stereotyping
Overgeneralizations - "neither justice, mercy, nor truth, enter into the judgement, for the judgement has preceded the evidence." (Walter Lippmann)
6. Self-Deception
"One of the most disturbing habits of the human mind is its willful and destructive forgetting of whatever in its past does not flatter or confirm its present point of view." (Katherine Anne Porter) See Slavery and Segregation in the U.S.A.

p.s. SOME teachers are too lazy to think, and help others correct their students' errors, jimmycheong...

The biggest factor is the kids are spoiled and demand instant gratification all the time. This was caused, in large part, by TV, these video games, computers, and overindulgent parents who give their kids everything instead of raising them right.
