although this may not answer the question directly. you could take this perspective in writing the essay. hitler did not expect to lose the war because for a period he was actually winning the war. however, if regrets are what needs to be focused on, what you could possibly do to answer the question is take it in a different direction by thinking about the integral battles that he lost such as those in france or even not fully taking over france. because of seemingly insignificant battles, it may have lead to his eventual loss. and it could be that he thought that these small battles were not important and took them for granted, thus causing him to regret them later on, possibly before he shot himself. nothing is for sure but this angle may solve the issue as no one knows for sure his exact thoughts. more research needs to be conducted to find the specifics.

1. Not going to the USSR before June 22,1941 with Operation Barbarossa
2. Better communication with the Japanese and trying to convince them to attack the USSR from the east instead of bombing Pearl Harbor
3. Not helping out Rommel further in North Africa
4. Not listening to reports concerning Normandy on D-Day
5. Trusting Hermann Goering with the truth about the Luftwaffe's effectiveness throughout the war
6. Despite of terrific odds , continuing to go forward and not retreating to fight another day by not listening to his generals at the front instead of his cronies in Berlin
7. trying to avoid too many fronts in the war thus limiting supply lines or having no supply lines to effectively conduct a successful campaign

Some ideas about aspects of his life that he wished he could have changed:
That his father had loved him and not sent him away to Austria.
That he had succeeded in developing his artistic skills.
That when he had begun to show signs of mental illness he had received treatment.
That people had been able to love him without him having to 'make them'.
That he had been a loving person.

Perhaps is biggest regret was losing. He did kill himself. You could argue that he killed himself because he didn't want the war to end with him as a loser, resulting in more shame. Good luck!!
