What was a medieval duchess?

I am doing a project and I need information on a medieval duchess and what she did in the medieval times or what she is famous for etc....the more information the better! thank you

Look up Eleanor of Acquitaine. She was probably the most powerful duchess of the late medieval period. She eventually became the queen of two countries.

A Duke typically has some power in their own right over their people and answers only to a king. Most duchesses were simply married to dukes. eleanor is a notable exception.

She was the wife of a medieval duke and unless she was a widow and guardian of underage heir, had no power except in running the household.
