We are moving house, and when we bought our washing machine we got it delivered... but looking at it now it seems incredibly heavy and scary, and I'm not looking forward to moving it down the stairs, lifting it up into a van, and then getting it up 2 more flights of stairs at the new place... will we just need a step trolley and some strong men, or would you suggest we try to get removalists? I'm just not sure exactly how heavy it is, and whether we will have problems...

Thanks!

We encountered the same thing.

- Use a soft cloth and appliance cleaner to wipe off the exterior.

- On the inside, clean lint filter and tub with a soft dry cloth.
Leave the lid open so that any moisture will evaporate.

- Make sure you drain all the water out first b4 you move.

- Turn off water faucets, disconnect and drain hoses.
Wrap the metal connector ends of hoses in a towel and place inside the washer.

- Get a dolly & make sure it's strapped on well

- Have at least two strong people (probably men ) do the actual moving.

GOOD LUCK!!

The laundry load was simply off-balance, and the vibrations of the motor moved the dryer across the floor. If the floor of your basement is coated with a high-gloss paint and your basement tends to be damp, that would make it slippery enough for an off-balance motor to move an appliance around quite easily. You might want to consider placing a rubber mat under the dryer, and to be more careful not to overload it next time.

if you are renting a moving van and moving all of the stuff yourselves, you can rent an appliance dolly (hand truck) from them too. it will have one or two straps on it that can be tightened around the item to hold it on to the dolly/hand truck. if anyone wants to strap it on their backs and try carrying it up and down stairs for you, make sure they have insurance! for both bodily and property damage. also, most moving vans will have ramps for rolling things in and out of them. good luck, be careful.

Oh dear!

If you can't handle it with a dolly, don't force the issue: Call in professionals who've had practice at handling heavy stuff.
