Most computers would work w/ 1 stick of RAM. Many motherboards now can run the memory on dual channel mode (faster or better performance) but you would need at least a pair of identical RAM sticks.

If you don't use a pair, you could slow your computer down. Most computers bank the DDR memory to increase the speed.

The more memory the better and that's no lie,
if its one stick then be sure its amount is high

if it is the older ddr you just need one stick, if its ddr2 you need two sticks, but they do not have to match in size.
