Which one do you see yourself doing for the long haul/ years to come ? Would you do it if you had all the money in the world? The question is what do you think you would do best in? Homeland Security is big here in the States, so I would say police officer. Look at taking public administration, criminology, and public affairs courses to make sure you don't become a one trick pony, and you can advance quickly; and change jobs if neccesary. HVAC is a good being career, but you can get stuck, and that would suck! Good luck in college and have fun.

I agree with 'smiling'. Find your inspiration in life (police officer, hvac tech., or something else?) and pursue that. That will be most rewarding for you. You want to spend your life 'doing what you love and loving what you do'!
