YES.It means that you and the atty. are probably dealing with an insurance co.and that you have a very high likelihood of winning the case. That is why some in the profession are known as "ambulance chasers".They basically take on cases where they are ASSURED a payout. Most atty's billing rate per hour nowadays is at least $250 per hour and sometimes a lot more.If you have an attoorney taking a case on a contigency fee agreement it is all but certain that you have a winning case.

They won't take it if they're not, but keep in mind you're often eligible for a settlement from the insurance company, and by paying a lawyer, they basically get a percentage of what you might have gotten anyway without them, leaving you 1/3rd short of your settlement.

As an example, my ex-wife was in a car crash that was the other drivers fault, the lawyer filed a claim, got $60,0000, and took $20,000 for himself for pretty much not doing anything.

So they can be helpful sometimes, but make sure it's worth giving them that much. You might be better off paying them by the hour if it's really clear-cut.

Not necessarily.

There are lots of reasons a lawyer might take a case they don't feel confident about.

They might not have anything better to do.

Or they might just think in their gut that there must be something that can be done, not know what, and plan to put in a lot of hours finding out.
