i heard somewhere that ur dreams are an extension of ur mind or something like that. well, if thats true, than if i have nightmares everynight (which i almost always do, or they're really strange, creepyish), than what does that mean? or if its the total opposite? what kind of state is my mind in? can what i dream be affected by what has happened in my life? i aint sayin what happened in my life tho. too dramatic TT~TT

Freud said that dreams are your unconscious trying to let things out. we call it unconscious leakage. there are things in your mind that you are not aware of and when that closet of thoughts gets full it has to leak out somehow. this is was Freud's explanation for most dreams, personality disorders and so on. that doesn't mean something very traumatic has happened. really depends on how psychologically resilient you are. even things you may have thought were minor may cause unconscious conflict. if you are very interested in Freud's psycho dynamic theory then i would suggest reading his book "interpretation of dreams"...if these dreams of yours are recurrent then it might be a good idea to see a psychoanalyst and try to get to the bottom of what is hidden and what could be causing these bad dreams. and never underestimate what is too dramatic, people try to cover the guilt of feeling bad with the concept that someone else has it worse, which someone else does somewhere but you are you not them, if something is causing you trouble you should try and fix it. hope i could help, good luck.

Your dreams do not always reflect issues in you personal/ daily life. You can be creeped out by TV shows or movies. Plus, I have found that my dreams never have anything to do with my real life. They may simply be a way for you to let out fear, or anger, or your fantasies you can not act out in real life. Your drams do not say anything about your state of mind because I used to sleep walk and I am perfectly sane. As far as they go, your life can effect them, but I doubt that anything that dramatic has happened to you to make you have nightmares every single night. So you are sane and i think your dreams are being influenced by outside sources like TV.

According to the activation-synthesis theory of dreams, your dream probably has no meaning at all. (Sorry, that's probably not what you wanted to hear.)

Although dreams are influenced by our thoughts throughout the course of the day, this does not mean they are special messages to us that we should carefully consider.

Here's one perspective:

"Activation Synthesis Theory is a neurobiological theory of dreams, put forward by James Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley in 1977, which states that dreams are a random event caused by firing of neurons in the brain. This random firing sends signals to the body's motor systems, but because of a paralysis that occurs during REM sleep, the brain is faced with a paradox. It synthesizes a narrative by drawing on memory systems in an attempt to make sense of what it has experienced."

What you dream usually has something to do with what you were thinking about earlier in the day, which can have something to do with your history. Also, movies or books you have seen. Your brain is trying to make sense out of the information it took in that day, and it becomes freely associated with other thoughts inside you head.
