I felt the exact same way and to this day, I'll never know why I was scared to tell her. My mom and I get along very well. I rolled up wads of toilet paper and used band-aids to secure it to my panties, so believe me, you are not alone. I was only 9 when I started and all I knew about having a period was that you bled...I didn't know it was just for a few days a month...I thought you starting bleeding and didn't stop until you were an old lady!
As everyone else has mentioned, just go tell her...consider the alternative of not telling her...you're going to have to ask her to buy you new panties because they are all stained. You'll have stains in your jeans, skirts, shorts...I'd choose the best choice and tell her.
Maybe begin by saying, "Mom, were you scared the first time you started your period?" and go from there. It is nothing to be embarrassed or scared of...we all go through it.
Good luck and big hugs :) We'll all be with you in spirit when you tell her!

Why in the world are you scared?? Getting your period is just like losing baby teeth or growing an inch taller. It just happens. If your scared of your mom, especially of what she'll do or say because you got your period of all things, I think you have something more to worry about than getting pads or tampons. Is there a female teacher or nurse at your school that you're comfortable talking with? Or maybe an aunt or older female relative? If anything, your mother should be happy and excited for you because you're growing into a lady....Please, if you're scared that this is a bad thing and that your mother will punish you, consider getting some help from an adult you trust.

You are going to have to tell her sometime. I had trouble telling my mom, too. She had already bought my a pack of pads so when I got my first period all I had to do was use the pads! After a while, I had no more pads and so I had to tell her sometime. I sat on my bed for hours thinking of ways to tell her! I found out one way which I thought would be a lot easier on me. I told my mom that I needed to go to the store. Of course she asked why. I told her that I needed to get some things. Then she asked what. I was really worried now but finally told her that I needed GIRL ITEMS. She just smiled and took me to the store. The only thing that I hated about this was that she was talking to me about it all the way to the store but it wasn't bad at all! Good luck telling your mom! Just try to remember that it really isn't that hard!

I know how you feel. When I first got my period I was scared to. The thing is it's not that big of a deal, just remember your mom is a women too. She went through all the things your going through and she will be able to get you through it. As for you being 11 that is not much of a problem either. Girls are getting their periods younger and younger these days due to body types and the environments they are around. So, I suggest you just sit your mother down and tell her it's more than likely she will be very supportive and help you through it.

Hey there, well just tell her. My mom found out before I told her but gave me the time to tell her. she was a lot of help. It is not like it's a bad thing. Just go up to her and be like, "Hey mom, I just got my period and I need some help picking out the right pads and stuff." hope that helps

Most girls recieve thier period between 10-14 years old. So, you've started at just the right time. I started at 11 as well. Just tell you mom. Your period is nothing to be ashamed of. She will understand & I'm sure she'll help you get the things that you need. Pretty much every girl goes throught this- just go talk to her : )

I too did not want anyone to know, but I had two older sisters who always had some necessity's handy. So It made life a lot easier.
But now, I wonder why I was so scared, so don't be scared she will be elated and will help you all she can, maybe even go over board. Please let her know, she will help you. And if uncomfortable ask your friends to help you use tampons. Went through a whole box of my friends but finally got it right. You don't lose your virginity despite what people tell you. It is safe just change them frequently.

There is nothing to be scared or ashamed of. You should be able to tell your mom what is happening and ask her to take you to the store to buy what you need. Personally, I first used pads, then found them to be very uncomfortable. So I switched, and am much happier now. If you are active in sports, tampons are usually easier to deal with.
If nothing else, call the local public health department and talk to the nurse there. It should be free, and they can help you with all sorts of stuff. Welcome to womanhood.

Hey there. Relax, it's okay! :) I was 11 when I started my period. Luckily I was at home and I just told my mom and we talked about it and she gave me a pad and showed me how to use it (I don't like the way tampons feel), but each has their own taste. It's not hard to take care of, but you have to change your pad every couple of hours, depending on how heavy you period is. Talk to your mom, just tell her. It's something EVERY girl goes through at one point or another. You'll find it's not as awkward as you fear. Congratulations, you're getting older! lol.
