I think you would study child psychology and then specialize in interventions once you had your degree. I think that is a great goal. I wish you the best of luck in acheiving it.

I could be wrong, but I think many interventionists were some form of addict or gang member themselves at one point in time, and I don't want to advocate that you become an addict or gang member so that later you can become an interventionist. That does not mean that you cannot help people. Beyond intervention, people then need therapy and other programs that you can get involved in. The American Psychological Association has a special accreditation for Alcohol and Substance Abuse and there are other programs for counseling and social workers. Look into programs for these areas, usually requiring a college degree.

Why not start with visiting an old peoples facility where elderly people are awaiting death (generally). You are learning then what is is for them to be (mostly) waiting to die while no one has time for them and do not visit.

You may just realise that what is needed is some better education amongst the young and for all to realise that one they they too might end in this way unless they do something about this.

Such a experience will not only give you a better look at the future but also may assist you to assist others. you could teach them that life is not just about living it up at the moment but that it must include looking ahead to the future, including old age, and how dependent you might end up if you do not provide for yourself. both financially and otherwise.

Why use any other title then being a "humanitarian"? surely, if you feel wanting to do something then you pursue the best for all.

While you may like to get involved with children that may be just to make them happy in a contemporary manner but that kinder garten and primary school teachers are doing already. Helping people to have a better outlook of life in a perhaps playful manner might be a better way to start of with.

When dealing with people and desiring to help them, then the first port of call is to LISTEN to them. Not just do what you think they want and they might just go along not wanting to offend you for your kindness but perhaps hoping you just leave as soon as possible.
One, I visited a man in hospital, who no longer had the ability to speak, I had become aware that he liked a certain subject and so while I was visiting I was explaing to him what I viewed about this subject. the man could not talk but his eyes were glittering and he was smiling time and again and his head nodding of approval. After the visit I said to his wife I wonder who had more pleasure out of the visit, her husband ofr myself as I really did entjoy the visit.
Two days later his wife notified me that her husband had died.
she recalled to me what I had stated to her after the visit and thanked me for having been so attentive to her husband.

Personally, I think often back to that visit and am glad I took my time to talk about something this man was interested about, as now it turned out it was the last conversation we had.

While not everyone will be dying shortly after a visit, keep in mind that you never know the lifespan of anyone. Live your life to the fullest in that regard and likewise care for others in the same manner. Just keep in mind that you should care for people as you would wish they did for you if you were to be in their circumstances. If you take this view then I am sure you will do allright.
