exactly as says. no problem connecting to the router, but connecting to the internet is a problem. things ive tried: making connection settings automatic, no firewall problem, drivers up to date, allowing other computers to connect, creating and deleting networks, disabling networks, restarting computer and router, trying to connect to other routers that i know work (one router was password protected and another wasnt. neither work), cant connect any other computer to it (but used to be able to), going in through dos and releasing and renewing etc., and still no luck. now the only thing i can figure is not WAP or anything but rather PPPoe connection? before i start calling isp's i need some advice. thanks folks

Most ISP's will give you general Connection Information for your router. Most don't charge you more for connecting more than one computer.

If you are using a cable modem, the connection setting most likely will be obtain IP automatically. If you are using DSL and have a connection on your computer, You will need to use the connection setting PPPoE. Then you will enter your user-name/Password in the area that is below the PPPoE. If you have done that, You may have to hard code the DNS settings into your router. (your ISP can help you with this). The router could be bad... (Unlikely) or possibly you have changed the configuration to one that won't work. In that event you would want to reset the router back to factory settings and start over.

Does it work with wired computers? If you check the STATUS page does the router show a connection to WAN or INTERNET. or does it show 0.0.0.0 as an IP.

If you have PPoe you need to set the router up with your username and password so it can connect. Once it connects the rest or your problems should go away.

You said you cant connect any other computer to it, what happens if you do? If you can not get IP's when connecting other machines do you have DHCP turned on in the router?

Reset it to FACTORY defaults and start over, It may just need a kick in the seat of the pants! I know many that will work after that.

Try these steps in this order; you may not need to do all of them. When you change from pc wired to modem to router wired to modem, you must reboot the modem. You may need a cross cable between modem and router (and maybe a straight cable is ok for the pc if it has auto sensing port). Check that out. Finally, make sure you have the router WAN config set for a dynamic ip from your carrier. Save your router config settings, and reboot.

first things first...disconnect the Wi-Fi router and reboot the network with just the xDSL modem and PC to verify functionality. reset the Wi-Fi router back to factory settings and install in the network after you verify connectivity with the base setup. reboot the network and begin troubleshooting from here
