the chicken....

I believe the egg came first. I believe the egg was the product of two almost-chicken creatures. Their genetic material combined, perhaps with a mutation, to form the first egg-to-develop-into-a-chicken.

As the theory continues, maybe only half the the off-spring of the first chicken would be chickens and half almost-chickens. In following generations there were eventually pretty much all chickens eventually.
