More than likely it's a virus/virii or spyware. Try AVG (free.grisoft.com) for antivirus and Ad-Aware (lavasoftusa.com) for spyware...both free.

Second, get a new computer person. The comment about the modem made me laugh. This person obviously only 'claims' to know about computers.

Third, if it only freezes on certain websites, I've seen add-ons like Flash, that's become corrupted and any site with Flash would lock up. ....just something else to consider.

Don't bother with a defrag...it's overrated.

You should be using:
1) software firewall, e.g. Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6.2808

2) spyware program, e.g Spybot - Search & Destroy

Did you defrag it? Run anti spy? Try cleaning it up? Clean the fan? Lots of things could be wrong those are a few? Yahoo antispy is awsome to run everyday as well

You'll only get virus problems if you're using Microsoft software. So if you're using a Mac, don't worry, it isn't virus problems.

You haven't said if you're using wired or wireless internet.

Have you spoken to your ISP?

Try downloading mozilla firefox (if you can).

Then use that instead of internet explorer
